Who determines what is a green product?

I often wonder what the question posted above. Who determines this? Is it accurate? Can one trust a label?

These are all things I'll be searching and find more information on.

I'm a bit skeptical about almost anything, so I really only "trust" products that come from local farmers and producers that I can actually talk to. I find it very difficult to really find comfort in the grocery stores "organic" section, because who KNOWS where it really came from and under what conditions! It sucks that this is what the modern food system has come to in the US....

I do too!

It just seems to easy to slap a label on a product. I'm sure things get concidered "organic" taht are not. In my research I did find that the person wanting the label fills out a questionaire. It didn't comment on doubling checking. How easy would it be to lie???? I'm sure it happens a lot. Specially since now Green seems to be the IN thing.
